​Villa de Garafía es el municipio que acoge al Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos. De hecho, este alojamiento seencuentra a menos de un kilómetro de la carretera LP-4, que conduce hasta esta instalación científica de referencia.

Con semejante carta de presentación, no es difícil imaginar la extraordinaria calidad astronómica del cielo que envuelve a esta coqueta casa rural. Una cúpula de estrellas casi irreal, que se abre hacia los cuatro puntos cardinales. El aire es tan limpio y transparente que sus miles de destellos parecen al alcance de la mano.

La casa en sí, cuya planta tiene forma de L, ofrece dos habitaciones dobles y una capacidad máxima para cinco ocupantes. En la decoración interior abunda la madera, que alcanza su clímax en el bosque de vigas de de tea que sostiene el tejado tradicional a cuatro aguas. El exterior, puntuado de geranios, rodea a una barbacoa cuyo fuego encuentra su réplica en la acogedora chimenea del salón principal.

Dado que la vivienda está a más de 1.000 metros de altura (que por cierto es lo ideal para observar el cielo nocturno), sus propietarios han ingeniado un sofisticado sistema para evitar que los clientes puedan pasar frío. Consiste en instalar un telescopio Celestron en el exterior de la casa y conectarlo a un ordenador de control situado en el interior de la misma. Una cámara digital acoplada al ocular permite además inmortalizar los objetos observados, aunque para esta última funcionalidad se requieren ciertos conocimientos técnicos de fotografía.

With a letter of introduction like this, it is not difficult to imagine the extraordinary astronomic quality of the sky enveloping this cosy country cottage: an almost unreal star-studded dome, open to the four points of the compass. The air is so clean and transparent that it appears you could reach out and touch the thousands of twinkling stars with your hand.The L-shaped cottage offers two double bedrooms and can sleep a maximum of five people. Wood is abundant in the interior decoration, which reaches its height in the forest of pine wood beams holding up the traditional four-sided pitched roof. The outside, scattered with geraniums, wraps around a barbecue, whose fire is replicated in the hearth of the main lounge.As the house is at an altitude of over 1,000 metres (which, by the way, is ideal for observing the night sky), the owners have designed an ingenious system to prevent guests from feeling the col. It consists of installing a Celestron telescope outside that is computer controlled from inside. A digital camera coupled to the viewfinder also allows you to immortalise the objects you see, although a certain amount of technical photographic know-how is required for this.

Eine fast unwirkliche Sternenkuppel, die sich nach den vier Himmelsrichtungen ausdehnt. Die Luft ist so rein und klar, dass tausende von Lichtpunkten zum Greifen nah erscheinen.Das Haus selbst, mit einem L-förmigen Grundriss, bietet zwei Doppelzimmer mit einer maximalen Kapazität für fünf Bewohner. Die Innenausstattung besteht hauptsächlich aus Holz und erreicht ihren Höhepunkt im Wald aus Sparren aus kanarischer Kiefer, der das traditionelle Walmdach stützt. Der von Geranien geschmückte Außenbereich umrundet einen Grill, dessen Feuer im heimeligen Kamin des Hauptwohnzimmers wieder zu finden ist.Da das Wohnhaus auf mehr als 1.000 Metern über dem Meer liegt (was ideal für die Beobachtung des Nachthimmels ist), haben seine Eigentümer ein ausgeklügeltes System ersonnen, um zu vermeiden, dass ihre Gäste unter der Kälte leiden. Es besteht darin, dass ein Celestron Teleskop außen am Haus installiert wurde, das dann mit einem Steuerrechner im Inneren des Hauses verbunden wird. Eine an das Fernrohr gekoppelte Digitalkamera erlaubt es außerdem, die beobachteten Objekte zu verewigen. Für letzteres braucht man jedoch gewisse technische Kenntnisse über Fotografie.
