La Palma, the island of the stars, has a whole world associated with observing the Universe, to the delight of astronomy and nature lovers.

Apart from one of the best Astrophysics sites in the modern world, El Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory, up in the mountains, the tourism companies of La Palma have themed restaurants, accommodation and services companies, apart from reinforcing the night-time trails and natural sites on the island as a Network of Astronomy Look-out Spots, real springboards to the Universe.

 

The “Canary Islands, a volcanic experience II” 3-year Tourism Competiveness Plan enables the La Palma Cabildo (Island Government) to create a series of small amenities with a view to offering a different, high-quality product, aimed at people potentially interested in enjoying an experience in a destination with character.

 

The Cabildo of La Palma and ADER co-ordinate the Project Entrepreneurs in Astro-Tourism, whose objectives include the creation of a tourist product club based on astronomy, made up of a set of 37 initiatives that have been designed to enhance the range of astronomy tourism activities on La Palma.

 

The different initiatives have been themed in a broad range of ways, using elements of decor, astronomic observation, night-time excursions, the creation of dishes with star-themed names, G-Astronomy menus, etc. For further details, see the information on each initiative.

 

The first activity organised by the Entrepreneurs in Astro-Tourism Club is an extensive programme that has managed:

To organise a series of training meetings and seminars that have encouraged, programmed and developed a pilot range of activities.

Provide businessmen with the skills to organise a product club based on star tourism or Astro-Tourism.

The economic stake holders have themed their tourist products/services on the concept of Astro-Tourism.

They have invested in theming their products.

The range of theme tourism activities of the island has been enhanced.
